The Indian Rupee finally gets a symbol and joins the elite currency club of Dollars, Euros and pounds. The symbol has been designed by IIT graduate D Udaya Kumar and it has been approved by the cabinet.
For the moment, the rupee symbol will not be printed or embossed on currency notes or coins. In the next couple of months, it would be included in the ‘Unicode standard’ and it will feature on computer keyboards and software’s for global use.
How do you type the new Indian Rupee Symbol on the keyboard? You can download the Rupee Font. Copy the font in your Fonts folder (C:/Windows/Fonts). For the other person to view the font, he will have to download the font too on his computer.
Open Microsoft Word and type the key `, on the left of “1” on the keyboard, below the “ESC” key.
Change your font to “Rupee” and Voila – you can see the new Rupee symbol.
