If you’re travelling from Dadar to Badlapur, a return first class ticket would costs you approx Rs 220/-. Say, after finishing your work, you need to travel from Dadar to Churchgate, you’d need to buy another ticket which wouldnt costs you less than Rs 100/-. So instead the next time you think you plan to travel to far off distances on a Mumbai local within the same day, opt for a tourist ticket. A first class tourist ticket costs Rs 170/- only and is valid on all 3 lines, viz Western line, Central line and harbour line and is valid for any number of travels during that day. I do wonder how the railway authorities come up with their statistics. How do they calculate how many ‘actual’ tourists use the public transport in Mumbai?
