Sagar Upvan Botanical Garden owned by the Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) is one of the best gardens in South Mumbai comprising an area of 14 acres housing 5000 varieties of plants.The poetic name, Sagar Upvan, is a fitting ode to this seaside garden that is smothered in greenery. The rich plant diversity is visible, as variety of botanical plants, flowering trees, seashore plants, cacti in a glasshouse, palms and bamboos, a jogging track, and medicinal plants are flourishing within the Garden. It is a garden where you can see flora at its best. Every plant and tree have been meticulously labeled.
Over 4000 visitors per day visit the garden which include senior citizens, school and college students, tourists from India and Overseas and eminent personalities from all walks of life. Since there are a variety of botanical plants, which have medicinal uses to a large extent these are referred by student groups from schools and colleges in their respective botanical project. A viewing platform at one end looks out at the Arabian Sea which is dotted with fishing boats.
