Marve and Manori beaches are among the most picturesque beaches that Mumbai boasts of. These beaches are located at the distance of approximately 19kms from Mumbai. The sheer scenic beauty of these beaches with unspoilt sand is conspicuous with the absence of the chaotic crowd of vendors that are so common to Mumbai beaches.
You can enjoy the Sun and the Sea amidst complete silence except the music of surging waves that you would love to explore. Marve and Manori beaches are dotted with some of the finely managed exotic private cottages built on the backdrop of the vast Arabian Sea and gaping Sun, that make these beaches all the more a tempting site to visit.
The island is dominated by the local fishing community (kolis) and fishing is the main stream of income for the locals although it is a very famous weekend picnic destination for many mumbaikars and is increasingly becoming a tourist hotspot. The beach, roads, overall culture is very similar to Goa and the place provides a mini-Goa experience within the boundaries of Mumbai city. For the religious / spiritual seekers – The Global vipassan pagoda (world’s largest structure containing the bone relics of the Buddha) offers a breathtaking view. There are 2 beautiful ashrams of the spiritual masters of Nath Sampradaya – Swami Gagangiri Maharaj and his disciple Swami Gagananand Maharaj. There is a Shiv temple (Samudreshwar) bang at the entrance of Manori islands (after landing from ferry). Ferry rides from Marve beach can take you to Manori in 15 minutes. You will find Manori beach more crowded than Marve beaches.There is one ancient Portuguese Church at Marve and a grove of Cashew nut trees that add to the beauty of this beach.
How to reach the beach?
The nearest railway station is Malad (western line). Then you have to catch a taxi towards the beaches. You can also board a ferry to reach Marve and Manori beaches. Manori is across Marve Creek and motorboats can take you there. You can also enjoy country boats that are easily available from Marve. There are regular ferry services from Marve.
