JNPT-mumbai Jawaharlal Nehru Port is also known as Nhava Sheva. This is one of the busiest port in India, named after our first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The port lies on the mainland opposite the city of Mumbai across the thane creek. It is run by the Jawaharlal Nehru port trust. It was created to augment the shipping capacity of Mumbai port.
JNPT has daily ferry service to Gateway of India. It is well connected to major highways and rail networks in India. It has access to neighboring Mumbai and to the surroundings of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and most of North India. The closest suburban railheads are CBD Belapur and Panvel. The port handles 65% of India’s container traffic. It has three terminals mainly:
