The Jain temple is also known as Babu Amichand Panalal Adishwarji Jain Temple. This is one of the most popular, beautiful and noteworthy amongst all the jain temples in Mumbai. It was built for the svetamber jains, constructed in 1903. It has two major idols, one of Rishabhadev to whom this temple is dedicated to , and the other of Parasnath Bhagwan.
The downstairs area houses an array of deities and saints, including an image of Ganesh that recalls historical links between Jainism and Hinduism. Three black idols are protected behind a metal screen.
the ground floor has a square floor plan with the statutes of all the jain ‘thirthankars’( prophets) recessed into smaller square rooms around the main room. The beautifully decorated and adorned Jain temple of Mumbai has an entrance flanked by two stone elephants. The dome ceiling is painted with the signs of the zodiac.
The Jain community don’t offer flower to God/Goddess in their temples as they strictly believe in not killing any small insect that might be present in flowers they offer. The rituals, diet and life style of people who follow Jainism are very strict.
Where is the temple located and how to reach?
It is located on Malabar hill ( ridge road, B C kher marg). You can get off at Grant road station (western line) and take a taxi towards the temple.
