Crawford Market, also known as sanket phule market is one of South Mumbai’s most famous markets. It is very close to Lohar Chawl and Manish market in Marine Lines suburb. The market gets its name after Arthur Crawford, the first municipal commissioner of the city. The market houses a wholesale fruit, vegetable and poultry market. One end of the market is a pet store. There are many shops that sell imported foods, cosmetics, household and gift items. Earlier, this was the main market for fruits in Mumbai, but in 1996, the wholesale traders shifted base to APMC market in Vashi, New Mumbai.
The market is spread in an area of around 72000 sq yards and is famous for its architecture, which is a blend of Norman and Flemish architectural styles.
