The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount, more commonly known as Mount Mary, is a Roman Catholic church in the Bandra suburb. It is one of the most visited churches in Bandra. It is very close to Bandstand. If you’re driving on Bandstand, you can take the left turn after Shah Rukh’s Mannat, on Kane road, which will lead you to Mount Mary. Every September, the feast of St. Mary is celebrated on the Sunday following 8 September, the birthday of the Virgin Mary. This festival goes on for an entire week and thousands of people visit this festival also known as the Bandra Fair. The reclamation area gets very crowded during this period and is best avoided by motorist returning back home from work.

The church stands on a hillock about 80 metres above sea level overlooking the Arabian Sea. People from all caste and creeds visit this church, mostly youngsters who offer wax offerings and candles to Mother Mary to answer their prayers. If a student wants to pass his exam, he offers a wax book (available outside the church at the various stalls) to Mother Mary.

What can you do after visiting Mount Mary – After visiting Mount Mary, you can walk down to Bandstand and take a stroll at the promenade. You have various eating options there. You can see Shak Rukh Khna’s mansion – Mannat, or look at at Salman Khan’s galaxy apartments. The 5 star hotel Taj Lands End is located at the far end of Bandstand, which is also the Bandra fort.
